Geles Cabrera (México, 1926) es reconocida por ser la primera mujer en practicar la escultura profesionalmente en México. Con una carrera que se extiende a lo largo de 60 años, su trabajo se centra en el cuerpo y su forma. Aunque sus temáticas son comunes a otrxs escultorxs de su generación, su enfoque siempre fue más lírico, abordando problemáticas y preocupaciones humanas fundamentales, como la soledad, el amor, la sexualidad y la experiencia de la maternidad.
Entre sus exhibiciones recientes se encuentran: Sin título, Galería Agustina Ferreyra, CDMX, México (2025); Fe y Alegría, Galería Agustina Ferreyra, CDMX, México (2024); Rituales (Capítulo VI), Lago Algo, México (2024); Americas Society, Nueva York, EE. UU. (2022); Museo de Arte Moderno de México, CDMX, México (2021); kurimanzutto, CDMX, México (2020); Galería Agustina Ferreyra, Ciudad de México, México (2019); y Museo Experimental El Eco, CDMX, México (2018).
En 2024, Cabrera recibió la Medalla de Oro de Bellas Artes, el máximo galardón otorgado por el gobierno mexicano. Su primera retrospectiva en México está programada para octubre de 2025 en el Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Actualmente, Geles Cabrera reside en la Ciudad de México.

Geles Cabrera (Mexico, 1926) is recognized as the first woman to practice sculpture professionally in Mexico. With a career spanning over 60 years, her work focuses on the body and its form. Although her themes are common among other sculptors of her generation, her approach was always more lyrical, addressing fundamental human concerns such as loneliness, love, sexuality, and the experience of motherhood.
Her recent exhibitions include: Untitled, Galería Agustina Ferreyra, Mexico City, Mexico (2025); Faith and Joy, Galería Agustina Ferreyra, Mexico City, Mexico (2024); Rituals (Chapter VI), Lago Algo, Mexico (2024); Americas Society, New York, USA (2022); Museo de Arte Moderno de México, Mexico City, Mexico (2021); kurimanzutto, Mexico City, Mexico (2020); Galería Agustina Ferreyra, Mexico City, Mexico (2019); and Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City, Mexico (2018).
In 2024, Cabrera received the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, the highest award granted by the Mexican government. Her first retrospective in Mexico is scheduled for October 2025 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Currently, Geles Cabrera resides in Mexico City.
